Chengdu Panda Base (Research Base)
The original panda research and breeding center, 10km north of Chengdu. Home to 100+ pandas. Best visited in the morning when they are most active outdoors. 9,900 monthly searches.

Panda Facts
Giant Panda
Native to Sichuan, Shaanxi, and Gansu. ~1,800 remain in the wild. IUCN status: Vulnerable. Our panda guides explain the remarkable conservation turnaround from near-extinction.
Red Panda
Smaller and more active than giant pandas. Found in the Himalayan region including Sichuan. Often visible at Bifengxia.
Best Time to Visit
Spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) when pandas are most active outdoors. Summer can be very hot in Chengdu.
Baby Pandas
Born July–September. Newborns weigh only ~100g — about 1/900th of their mother's weight. Breeding season tours available.
